What is the cut-off, in channel number, between VHF and UHF digital TV channels?
. . . realizing that VHF signals are retrieved best with an antenna’s dipoles, and UHF signals are retrieved best with some type of parabolic receiver. However, the digital converter boxes don’t say whether you’re on a VHF or a UHF channel.
Unlike with analog channels, there is no set relationship between a digital channel number and where it is located in the VHF/UHF band. For example, digital channel 7 might be on a VHF or a UHF frequency, and the frequency that digital channel 7 is on is probably different in different cities. To make things even more complicated, when the June 12th analog shutoff happens, some digital channels are moving from the UHF band where they are now, back down to the VHF band where their analog channel was before it was turned off, while others digital channels are moving from one UHF frequency to another UHF frequency. None of these frequency changes will change the actual channel number that is used to tune in the digital channel.
