After february 17 2009, what will analog UHF VHF signals be used for? There has to be some reasoning behind it
I mean it makes no sence. At home with 3 tv’s my mom has new little 13in hdtv and she doesn’t exactly like it either. She watches univision, a spanish channel which is always crystal clear on normal uhf vhf. She says that the station goes out all the time on HDTV and ends up having change to regular tv constantly.
Anyways, the only reason why the government is ordering that normal analog hdtv be phased out is because it’s going to be used for another thing, CONSIDERING THERE’S ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH NORMAL UHF VHF ANALOG TV!!
Oh and what about radios that have UHF channels 2…5…8…and 11 for emergency weather brodcasts. Will they still work?
Digital broadcasts will be made on what is now analog channels 2-51. What are now analog channels 52-69 will be used for other things like wireless services and emergency communications
That is also why you can use the same antennas for both analog and digital broadcasts.
Unlike analog TV, digital channel numbers do not correspond to an actual real frequency. Stations use their old analog channel number for their new digital broadcasts. If you check her location at the web site below, you can find out what the “real” frequency (aka old analog frequency) the digital station is using.
Real channel numbers and transmitting power are going to change around after 2/17/09, so the reception you get now is not necessarily what you will get after 2/17/09.

Channels 2-13 are VHF frequencies and no they will not work. Nor should you expect to find cheap radios with digital TV sound. Adding VHF TV analog sound is cheap for manufacturers to do. Digital sound is not so cheap to add.
The US government (and nearly every other first world country on the planet) has real good reasons for switching from analog to digital broadcasts. They all stem from the fact that analog TV systems are based on 1930’s technology and are limiting and wasteful compared to modern digital systems.
The change from analog to digital TV broadcasts has been in the works for over a decade. Somehow all major government s and political factions in first world nations came to similar transition plans.
I suggest you start by finding your local TV broadcast information at the web site below. And then figure out what kind of antenna is best for her location.
