Open Mic Night Label: Dos and Don'ts for literary artists
Many people think open mic nights applies only to musicians, but across the country are open microphones in his local literary cafe, bookstore and library. I organized a series of open mic reading for almost a year and these events highlight the writers of all genres: fiction, autobiography, poetry, spoken word and more. We been artists crossing but mostly we stick to the written word. At these events, we have about 20 players and about 40 people in public, which is fantastic! Imagine, 40 people decided to get off the couch and listen to others read their own poetry!
Open Mic What
– That the MC so I know what to expect at least three days before the event (especially mine, because they are so popular!)
– Practise reading your work in advance so that you know it's five minutes or less
– Remind the MC if you have a specific request for presentation
– To be PG or PG-13 – sometimes there are children in the audience. And, yes, perhaps children clock HBO, but do not think it Cool dropping bombs all F-how
– Do not try to stay until the end of the open stage and if you can not, please tell MC who must leave
– The generosity of the Council and the condescension of the bar, a cafeteria or library
Don'ts Open Mic
– This is not the time nor the place to make your political or religious soap box
– If the MC is a sign of stopping, do not take another 3 minutes, until the end!
– Do not mix newspapers or talk while people read
– Turn off your phone Laptop!
Above all, have fun! The microphones are open to support writers and artists to integrate a forum for the presentation and the practice of his words before an audience. There is always a special energy in the room during an open mic and it is because people are there because they want to be with other like-minded creators, I do not think they are funny because scribble or whisper in strange places. Go to the next open mic!
