The computer monitors the most common are 2 types.

electron tube in which electrons are accelerated by high voltage anode, formed in a beam focusing electrodes, and projected onto a phosphorescent screen that forms one side of the tube. The electron beam leaves a glimmer hope where hitting the phosphor screen. To form a screen or image on the screen, the electron beam is deflected in the vertical and horizontal, or through the electrostatic electrodes inside the tube or by magnetic fields produced by coils located in the neck tube. Some cathode-ray tubes can produce multiple beams of electrons and phosphor screens are capable of displaying more than one color. Cathode ray tubes used in televisions, computers, cash machines, oscilloscopes, radar screens and is the type of monitor you are most familiar.
The new type is called Liquid Crystal Display screen LCD liquids or LCD screen is a thin and lightweight. It is a fluid control electric polarization of the light trapped in the cells polarization between two transparent sheets. The axes of polarization of the two sheets are aligned perpendicular to each other. Each cell is supplied with electrical contacts that allow an electric field is applied within the liquid.
Before an electric field is applied along fine molecules in the liquid are in a state of relaxation. Ridges on the top and bottom sheet encourage polarization of molecules parallel to the direction polarization of the light sheet. Between the sheets, the polarization of the molecules twists naturally between the two perpendicular ends. The light is polarized by a sheet, shot through the movement of molecules, crystal soft, then passes through the second sheet. The whole assembly looks nearly transparent. A shadow will be evident as loss of polarization of light in the original sheet.
When an electric field is applied, liquid molecules are aligned in the field, inhibiting rotation of polarized light. As light strikes the sheet perpendicular to the polarization direction polarization of light is absorbed and the cell appears dark.
The new type has a native resolution of this method can not change the size or resolution you can with cathode ray tube or older types.
